The Radiance 5-S Model – A Pragmatic Approach to DV Therapy
Our 5-S Model covers five areas that equip clients and their providers with tools, insights, and techniques to end the cycle of abusive behaviors and domestic violence. Our healing journey helps clients eliminate defensiveness, blame, and disgrace while holding them accountable for their choices.
Although 5-S represents the 5 areas of “self” which is our focus, we like to think of our approach holistically–5 STRENGTHS we help our clients achieve:
SELF EXPLORATION
Understands and accepts that his choices exposed his loved-ones to abuse
SELF AWARENESS
Accepts full responsibility for his behaviors and has stopped blaming others
SELF DEVELOPMENT
Understands the connection between his unresolved trauma, his triggers, and his abusive behaviors
SELF DETERMINATION
Has intrinsic motivation to demonstrate self-control and replace aggression with effective conflict resolution
SELF SUSTAINABILITY
Capable of self-regulating his behaviors during conflict
Client Readiness
Our approach begins and ends with a set of assessments that help us determine his readiness to begin exploring “self.” The most important goal of intake is for the clinician to begin establishing a therapeutic relationship with the client.
Why Radiance 5-S?

- Our method allows for self-discovery by the offender; which, in turn, helps him face his fears, traumas, and shame
- Our fluid process addresses clients’ just-in-time needs; not a rigidly followed agenda
- Our self-pacing supports clients’ specific, individual growth rate
- Our approach provides concrete skills to handle conflict in a non-abusive, wholesome manner
